Mary Could Preach, Why Not Be President

Mary could preach. Remember her response to being pregnant and not married?

Oh, how my soul praises the Lord. How my spirit rejoices in God, my Savior!

For he took notice of his lowly servant girl, and from now on, all generations will call me blessed.

For the Mighty One is holy and he has done great things for me.

He shows mercy from generation to generation to all who fear him.

His mighty arm has done tremendous things! He has scattered the proud and haughty ones.

He has brought down princes from their thrones and exalted the humble.

He has filled the hungry with good things and sent the rich away with empty hands.

He has helped his servant Israel and remembered to be merciful.

For he made this promise to our ancestors, to Abraham and his children forever."

Luke 1: 46-56

Mary’s response to stress and adversity tell me she would make a great president, here is why:

I imagine she had to figure out how to bring peace between her family and Joseph's due to their unexpected pregnancy. Her fostering peace among Jesus and his brothers (who didn't buy Jesus' claims). Maybe Mary could help us become bipartisan again. The guts she had to leave her home, travel, and live like a refugee. Mary would bring such insights to our immigration problem.

She must have known what it was like to survive as a widow. In her culture, the eldest son provided for the mother in her old age. Not helpful, Jesus is “unemployed.” Mary might have something to say about wealth and poverty in America. She endured shame when the community claimed her son was insane. She stayed at the cross, enduring loss that no parent wants to experience. She could teach us a few things about suffering.

Mary rose to leadership in the early church. She had depth, real-life experience, strength, courage, and conviction. Remember, she had to figure out how to raise the Savior! She must of had a teachable spirit too. Think about how she had to rethink what she thought she knew about God and the world. That woman could teach us a few things about life and leadership, and endurance for the long game. I'd vote for Mary! Listen to my podcast about this very issue here.

Mary could preach. So too can Amanda, whom you met a couple of weeks ago.

Our work is about reminding us all of the Imago Dei God wired into women too. In their homes, workplaces, churches, and in their souls, women must be full participants in the sacred work of living.

That's why we are Expanding Our Reach in 2021. I gladly appeal to you to invest in our work because we are going as far and as wide as we can with this message in 2021.

 Thank you and Merry Christmas
