I grew up the son of a Baptist minister. What I read,  heard in church, and listened to on the radio (before the age of podcasts) came from white male evangelical teachers.

However, I was exposed to an alternative perspective when I started attending the church where Jackie preached. Her preaching opened my mind to the idea that all people, not just men, are created in God's image. I know this is simple, but it never occurred to me that God was not gendered or that God created men and women equally. My perspectives changed.

We decided early on that we would be regular investors in Jackie's work and The Marcella Project. My wife Krista serves as a founding board member, and I have done whatever, whenever to be of help. This work has changed our lives, and we want to see others impacted as well.

Now that Jackie is a Pastor-at-Large, I no longer have to wait to hear her teachings from a Sunday morning pulpit. I can plug into her podcast any time and reap the Spirit's blessings. I know I'm not alone; many of us men listen in and learn from Jackie's podcasts. We see our God in a new, fresh way and, therefore, our wives, daughters, and sons. A way that was not seen or heard out of the mouths of our male leaders. And when I think about where we are at this period in our history, I'm mindful of how much we need public theologians like Jackie.

Will you join Krista and me as we give to the work of The Marcella Project during its Expand Our  Reach campaign in 2021?
